PCI Dental Assisting students Volunteer at the Connecticut Mission of Mercy

March 17, 2010

This past weekend the dental assisting class from our Enfield campus volunteered to help at the Connecticut Mission of Mercy (CTMOM).

The  CTMOM is organized by the Connecticut State Dental Association with the goal of providing free dental care to as many people as possible.  The services provided were open to anyone and there were no requirements for attending.

The CTMOM was 2 days long and took place in Middletown, Connecticut. Our students were among the 1,600 volunteers for this event and they helped over 2,000 people receive services between the two days.  The services provided included fillings, cleanings, extractions, root canals, and more.

The students not only volunteered their time, they also held a bake sale to help raise the money needed to transport all the students down to the event and PCI matched all the money they raised.

Channel 3 News was there to report on the event, click here to see their video coverage. Many of the people seen in this video are PCI students, including Ayanna Pierce-Woods who is interviewed in the middle of the story.

Congratulations to everyone involved.
