Adam Mann graduated from the Porter and Chester Institute Automotive Technology program and is already employed at a Ford dealership. He says he likes to treat every vehicle that comes into the shop as if it belonged to a member of his family.

“I like to take my time with the cars so I don’t make any mistakes,” said Adam. “Really, I treat it like it’s my own car, or my mom’s car.”

That thoroughness and attention-to-detail is something that was encouraged at Porter and Chester’s  Canton campus where Adam attended school. The Porter and Chester Institute Automotive Technology program taught Adam how to diagnose and repair major vehicle components like engines, electronics, fuel and emission systems, transmissions, and body control systems. Adam said he especially liked working closely with individual instructors who brought their own knowledge from the field into the classroom.

“Mr. Bailey was the best,” said Adam. “He has a lot of knowledge and I’d pick his brain and learn all about what could go wrong with different makes and models. He’s a really nice guy, too.”

Adam says he felt like all the instructors were there to help him learn.

Now that he’s working as a professional automotive technician in the industry, Adam says he’s still learning. He likes his boss at the Ford dealership—is learning a lot from him—and likes the opportunity he’s getting to work on a variety of cars and car issues.

But Adam is planning for a future that will allow him to work on more than just cars.

“I’d like to do work on construction machines like excavators and bobcats,” said Adam. “Eventually, I’d like to start my own business.”

Adam has big dreams and says the advice he’d give to students following in his footsteps would be to follow their dreams.

“I’m doing what I want to do and I’m happy about it,” said Adam.

According to Adam, “you need to follow your dream and not give up.”
